While I’m not 100% behind some of President Trump’s Tweets, or ummmm…lack of decorum at times, it’s hardly unique through history, but admittedly there hasn’t been anyone in modern history since Johnson who was so…so…free with his words. I don’t think the current generation knows how to take it, being raised on Clinton and Obama’s smooth, silky BS. Frankly, I am quite entertained watching him take apart an egotistical and arrogant press corps and not roll over in the face of attacks from the left as previous GOP politicians have done. That aside, the guy has political cunning unlike anyone in the modern era.
Today, while the Democrats were taking their (only partially deserved) victory lap, Trump rudely rained on their parade by announcing the “resignation” of Jeff Sessions. You could literally feel the left’s celebration screech to a halt. There is zero doubt in my mind this was carefully timed out and pre-planned should the Dems take the House. And it worked. Chuck Schumer was informed in the middle of a press conference, and the look on his face was freaking priceless. As it sank in, various Dems ran to the microphone to stammer out mostly warnings about the Mueller investigation, and of course “demand” that Trump’s interim replacement recuse himself immediately because of a hypothetical scenario he talked about years ago. That’s all to be dismissed, because the left would demand recusal if Trump appointed Jesus. Maybe especially if Trump appointed Jesus. Anyway, it was fascinating to watch the evolution of the left’s dismay this afternoon as they realized what Trump had really done to them. He stole their moment in the sun. He immediately dumped a whole new set of worries on them; Will Whitaker derail the Mueller probe? Worse yet, will Whitaker OPEN some investigations into Hillary, Obama, Holder, et al? Trump’s Tweet about opening Senate investigations if the Dems opened House investigations just grew a serious set of teeth. To add insult to injury, he did something that this new House majority cannot do a damn thing about. With all the recesses and holidays coming up, it’s almost certain any new nomination won’t be considered until the new GOP expanded majority has taken office after the first of the year.
